Interview With: Theodora Ntovas September 11, 2015 I have recently started looking into healthier alternatives for my every day life, and that’s when I came across the amazing skin care line YASOU. From it’s body cream, to face and hand cream, it’s great to know that the product I’m putting on my skin is actually good for it instead of being full of chemicals! Once I started using the face cream, (both day and night) I noticed an immediate change. My skin began to glow, and stayed moisturized longer – it was truly a skin miracle, especially for someone like myself who has struggled with bad skin for such a long time. After using the product for a full two weeks my skin did a total 180. That’s when I knew I had to sit down with the brand’s creator and founder Theodora Ntovas. When Wear & Now: When did you decide you wanted to start your own skin care line? Theodora Ntovas: Both of my parents are from Greece. My father from Athens, and my mother from a small village in the mountains. When I was younger I was lucky enough to live in my mother’s village and was surrounded by an old world culture that seems to not exist anymore. All the vegetables were grown on the land, the animals were raised then used, and butchered for meals, and skin products were made from yogurt and other natural products. The combination of growing up with these influences, and learning that 60%-80% of what you put on your skin is absorbed into your body, I decided to finally take the leap and start my own organic skin care line – thus, YASOU was created! WWN: After using your face cream, I can attest to it’s magical powers! How did you come up with the perfect formula? TN: Thank you! I’ve always had dry skin, so I was so happy that I could make a product that restored the moisture to my skin without the harsh chemicals. It took me awhile to find the perfect formulator, but once I did, we made something truly special. WWN: Since creating an organic skincare line, have you switched over to organic products in any other parts of your life? TN: Yes, I have, against my husband’s better judgment though! I started switching over to an organic lifestyle after last years BeHealthful retreat so it’s an honor to be part of it this year. Once I switched my food, I then slowly started with smaller things like body soap, dish soap, and laundry detergent. I have found that my body feels better and I have a lot more energy, so even though it was hard at first, it’s worth it now that I see all the amazing benefits. WWN: Since you’re an expert, what else can we be doing on a daily basis to live a healthier lifestyle? TN: Living an organic lifestyle is hard, and it may not be for everyone but, living a healthy lifestyle should be for everyone! I’ve seen people spend $400 on a handbag at the drop of a hat, but when it comes to skincare, they aren’t willing to spend anything over $20 for a great product. I think it’s important for people to realize they must take care of themselves. Go out and buy that $90 skin cream, go get that massage, it’s as simple as that. If you take care of your body, it’s more likely that your body will pay you back and reward you with more energy and healthier skin. WWN: Where do you hope to see YASOU in the next 5 years? TN: Good karma is important for me so I hope that one day YASOU will be profitable enough to be able to donate some of the proceeds to the charity of my choice. I have always had the notion that if I put good things into my products, and allow people to be a better, healthier, version of themselves one day it will all come back to me. Photos By: Samantha Jean Photography MORE WITH THEODORA NTOVAS: Favorite Food? Greek food. Favorite natural product? YASOU face cream set and Beekman Copa natural soaps. What’s the hardest thing about eating and living the organic lifestyle? When I’m in need of an energy boost- I don’t grab the sweets I used to, and I miss that! What’s the best part of living the organic/natural lifestyle? I feel great! I Love having energy that isn’t a fast high and fast crash experience. I feel healthier, and happier which makes me prettier. Best part of having your own skin care line? I get to create products that really work and are good for me. I can use them and not worry about the harmful ingredients or if they are worth my investment. RELATED POSTSBelieve in the PossibleSpring is that You?
